In the ongoing fight against climate change, and as a way to incentivise those looking to embrace ecologically sustainable energy solutions, grant funding for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme will be increased from £5,000 to £7,500 as of October 23rd. By increasing the BUS support, the government is looking to make eco-friendly heat pumps more accessible to all.
Low-carbon heating solutions are the most effective method of ensuring an ecologically sustainable future, and this newly improved government scheme will help property owners replace their existing fossil fuel boilers with more energy-efficient, low-carbon systems.
With the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you can replace your fossil fuel boiler and receive up to £7,500 towards the installation cost of your sustainable, energy-efficient ground source or air source heat pump.
Originally launched in April 2022, to encourage homeowners to invest in low-carbon heating solutions, the grant aimed to support the UK’s transition into a net-zero emissions status by the year 2050.
While there are long-term cost benefits associated with choosing a heat pump for your property, one of the potential roadblocks for customers making the switch is the initial outlay and cost of installation. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme aims to substantially reduce these costs— with £7,500 going towards the purchase and installation of an air source or ground source heat pump, with any remaining costs being paid by the homeowner.
Energy efficiency: Heat pumps are highly efficient, extracting heat from the air or ground to heat your home, making them a cost-effective heating solution.
Eco-friendly: Heat pumps produce minimal greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
Reduced energy bills: With their superior efficiency, heat pumps can lead to significant energy savings over time.
When you choose Evergreen, not only are our highly-qualified, MSC-registered technicians able to complete the project in-house, without the need for subcontractors, we also provide the local, personable service you just don’t get from one of the big national energy providers.
Most homeowners, small landlords and private landlords in England and Wales will be eligible to apply for a grant, providing that the applicant has a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and has no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation.
Unless you have an EPC insulation exemption, you must insulate your home before applying for the scheme. For more details, please head to the government website to see whether you’re eligible.
If you’d like any more information on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, or would like to discuss the options of installing a low-carbon heating system on your property, then please get in touch. We’d be happy to talk you through the process.
